A new launch
Mahindra, an irreplaceable name in the Indian utility vehicles segment, is now ready with one more product to its utility vehicles line-up – the KUV 100. The new SUV, which was earlier code-named as S101, is scheduled to be launched on the 15thof this month and the advance bookings are already rising in numbers. The new car, measuring less than four metres in length will be quite different from current Mahindra SUV line-up. It might be in fact a fore-runner to a new segment in the car market of that of micro SUVs. Although an SUV, the new car will be comparable to other B-segment hatchbacks in terms of size and price as well. The name is pronounced as KUV, “1 double O”,where ‘KUV’ stands for ‘Kool Utility Vehicle’. Some other unique realities about the vehicle are given below –
- It is the first ever petrol powered SUV from Mahindra.
- It is the first ever car to come with Mahindra’s newly developed mFalcon engine.
- It is the first ever SUV to be priced as low as Rs 4.5 lakhs for the base variant and is going to be the most economical SUV in the country.
- It is only the second car from Mahindra to be developed on a monocoque chassis after XUV500.
Exterior and Interior
KUV 100 will be shorter but taller than most other cars in its segment. It will be a 6 seater with a 3+3 front and back seating arrangement, where the front middle seat is foldable. The massive front bumper, a sleek radiator grille and black plastic cladding around gives the car an imposing and beefy look. Some of the features we can look forward to in the new car are- audio system with all modern connectivity, touch screen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, ABS as standard across all trims and dual air bags as optional.
This is the first time that Mahindra has produced a petrol engine and it is anmFalcon G80 that comes loaded with 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor that delivers 82 bhp power at 5500 rpm and gives away torque of 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. The other one is anmFalcon D75 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo diesel motor that pumps out 77 bhp power at 3750 rpm and 190 Nm torque between 1750 and 2250 rpm. At present, the sub-compact SUV will be available with a 5 speed manual transmission system, but there is a possibility that the company introduces an automatic variant at a later stage.
